The World BASC Organization successfully completed its Trade Mission in Los Angeles, held from November 6 to 9. During these days, representatives from various companies and organizations from the Americas gathered to explore opportunities and strengthen security and efficiency in international trade. The delegation, made up of 14 participants from six countries (Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru and the United States), obtained a comprehensive overview of trade control and facilitation operations on the West Coast of the United States and established direct contact with trade-related authorities and logistics service providers in the Los Angeles region.
The first day was highlighted by high-level meetings at the Port of Long Beach, where they were received by their representatives. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) operations office in Los Angeles, along with their staff, provided crucial information on their structure, regulations and processes to be taken into account when receiving cargo at U.S. ports. This information was corroborated with a visit to the Centers of Excellence and Expertise (CEE), where they learned about the cargo inspection processes, as well as the clean and sustainable operations of the Long Beach Container Terminal.
The agenda also included visits to logistics companies such as Cal Cartage, Prime Fresh Handling and SOS Copacking, which specialize in marketing and warehousing in the city of Los Angeles. With this experience, delegates were able to learn about global logistics operations practices and technological innovations applied to the handling of consumer and perishable products.
During the second day, strategic meetings were held with representatives of the Port of Los Angeles and the local Chamber of Commerce. During these sessions, the sustainable initiatives of the port, the largest U.S. port in the Western Hemisphere, were highlighted. Valuable information was received on port operations, highlighting the Environmental Action Plan and Port LA's novel "Green Port" concept focused on a program of significant reductions in emissions and cleaner operations with the replacement of new energies. This experience provided participants with key insights into the successful implementation of sustainable practices, underscoring the importance of environmental responsibility in the ongoing development of organizations.
The mission concluded with a visit to the Westec 2023 Trade Fair, where the latest innovations and trends in the manufacturing industry and new technologies for the production and design of consumer products and productivity in industrial operations and processes were explored.
The second and last BASC Trade Mission of the year underscored the importance of innovation, collaboration and opportunities to strengthen safe and efficient trade in the region, consolidating the World BASC Organization's commitment to the development, networking, knowledge and growth of its members at the international level.
